Ukraine's Anti-Corruption Bureau detains senior intelligence official Serhii Duka

Employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) have detained General Serhii Duka, First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) Department for Protection of National Statehood.

Source: Ukrainska Pravda sources in law enforcement agencies

Details: The detention took place against the backdrop of NABU releasing information regarding a criminal organisation exposed during Operation Carthage.

Its members systematically bribed senior law enforcement officials in exchange for the unhindered operation of fraudulent call centres and other illegal businesses.

Background: On the morning of 4 November, NABU was conducting searches targeting Anton Kravchuk, Head of the SSU Main Department of Internal Security. NABU previously reported that during the execution of count-mandated searches, one of the senior SSU officials under investigation threatened to use firearms and denied detectives access to the search location. UP sources reported that the official in question was General Serhii Duka.
