Details: Trump also said there had been "a lot of progress" towards resolving the war in Ukraine.

"We're making a lot of progress with Russia-Ukraine. There'll be a meeting set up very soon," he stated.

Trump was then asked to clarify who would attend the meeting. "President Putin and President Zelenskyy. And I think a lot of progress is being made," he replied. [N. B. Ukrainska Pravda does not recognise Putin as president – ed.]

Background: On 27 October, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre held a phone call with Putin on their own initiative. Stubb described the discussion as "frank and substantive". President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Stubb and Støre had made it clear to Putin that real de-escalatory steps are needed regarding Ukrainian energy and infrastructure. Reports in the media said that during the phone call with Stubb and Støre, Putin spent almost the entire conversation discussing the "initial reasons for the conflict" with Ukraine.
