Kai Trump's Miami women's golf season on hold following second wrist surgery: 'I made the best decision'

Kai Trump’s freshman year at the University of Miami is not going according to plan, at least on the golf course.

Trump, who joined the Hurricanes’ women’s golf team this year, announced that she underwent a successful surgery to repair a wrist injury she suffered in September.

Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump , posted a picture of her laying in a hospital bed with her arm in a sling and cast on Instagram Wednesday. The surgery took place at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York.

The surgery was one that the 19-year-old said is best for her "long-term health and my future in the game I love."

"While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love," Trump wrote. "It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination."

Trump injured her wrist, which has had previous troubles, in her first college tournament .

She previously had surgery on her left wrist in January, where she shared at the time it was done to "address injuries to the stabilizing tissues of my ECU tendon and damage to my triangular fibrocartilage complex."

Trump had played in a three-round tournament this past week in Muncie, Indiana, with one day requiring two rounds of play.

As for recovery, Trump didn’t elaborate on any timetables. However, she thanked Dr. Michelle G. Carlson, a hand and upper extremity specialist, as well as her teammates, coaches and family for the support at this time.

"Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow," Trump’s post continued. "Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

"For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process. I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever! Go Canes!"
