Details: An air-raid warning was issued in the Ludza and Balvi municipalities at 00: 10 on 2 November. Fighter jets from NATO's Baltic Air Defence mission were deployed in the airspace over the Baltic states. In response to the threat, the Latvian Armed Forces also deployed interceptor drones.

According to early reports, the object that triggered the alert crashed in the Balvi municipality, near the Russian border. Ground search operations have begun there.

The Latvian National Armed Forces urged members of the public not to approach or touch any suspicious objects or debris they might find and to call the emergency number 112 immediately.

Background: On 1 November, the Latvian Armed Forces deployed an interceptor drone after an unidentified UAV entered Latvian airspace. The object subsequently left the country's airspace, and the military activated the interceptor's self-destruct mechanism. On 24 October, the Latvian Armed Forces reported that they had found the wreckage of a drone which had crashed on the country's territory. On 18 October, in the village of Juodžionys in Lithuania's Pasvalys district, debris was discovered from what is believed to be a drone that had violated the country's airspace. Lithuania claims that the drone entered its airspace from the territory of Poland.
