We’ve got our second week of action in the NFL, and that means there is a full slate of action for us to chew on for betting. Last week was an okay week overall for football betting, but I’m looking to go perfect on today’s plays. The first action I have is in the early set of games as the Packers take on the Jets.
I was down on the Green Bay Packers coming into this season. I didn’t think they advanced very much in the offseason, and I felt like they were likely to take a step back as the rest of the division tries to get better. It is a tough division, with no true dog in the race. They all have a realistic shot at making the postseason, just as they did last season. It certainly was not the ideal start for Packers fans as they dropped their opener.
In Week 1, they took on the Minnesota Vikings , and Green Bay looked really good in the first half. They were up 19-10 at halftime. They even started the game with an interception of Kyler Murray on his first pass as a Viking. Murray was later injured, and the Packers couldn’t prevent a massive second half from Carson Wentz, who threw for 133 yards on 12-for-19 passing with three touchdowns. It certainly didn’t help that the Packers gave up two turnovers, but allowing 39 points when an opposing team has just 239 yards is pretty embarrassing.
The Jets had a much better opening week, but they did play an inferior opponent. They took on the Titans and weren’t intimidated in the slightest by seeing a former coach on the Tennessee sidelines. New York is 1-0, and although I doubt most of the fans even believe it means a march to the postseason is likely or possible, it is a nice start.
TWO-WORD GAME: DESCRIBING EVERY NFL TEAM'S WEEK 1 PERFORMANCE IN JUST TWO WORDS
In the Tennessee game, there were a few things that stood out to me about how the Jets managed the game. They had two rushing touchdowns and three field goals made. However, what was most impressive was that they gave the Titans no breathing room. I know the Titans don’t have a great offensive line, but they only gave up three sacks. The Jets defense overall held their opponent to just 195 total yards of offense.

This should be an interesting game. Half of the league starts the season 0-1, which really isn’t that big of a deal. However, going down to 0-2 puts a team at a really big hole to start the year and make the playoffs. That’s what the Packers are avoiding. It seems like every season they have some odd loss to start the year. Losing to the Vikings on the road isn’t odd, but the way they lost was a bit peculiar.
I have some concerns about the Packers' backfield, but I also don’t think this Jets defense was quite as good as the Titans made them look. I expect the Packers to be much more locked in on this one, and they should win this game by a touchdown. Give me the Packers -3. 5.
