Ukrainian soldiers from the 63 rd Separate Mechanised Brigade have organised a two-day operation to evacuate eight civilians from Lyman in Donetsk Oblast.

Details: During the final stage of the operation, a Russian drone caught the group by surprise, and one of the soldiers shielded the civilians with his body. He was injured but survived.
The evacuation of the civilians from under enemy fire was organised by soldiers from the 7 th Company of the 3 rd Mechanised Battalion after completing a combat mission.
A search-and-strike team involving French and American legionnaires – "Flash", "Cowboy", "Spad", "Chandra" and "Fanta" – operated on the ground. Aerial reconnaissance monitored the routes from above, warning the group of possible Russian ambushes.
The mortar battery and ground robotic systems unit ensured that logistical support and the crossing could be carried out using a MaxxPro armoured personnel carrier.
During the final stage, a Russian FPV drone spotted and attacked the group. One of the soldiers shielded the civilians with his body, sustaining a serious injury. However, thanks to the timely actions of the reconnaissance platoon, he was rescued.
Among the evacuated civilians were an elderly woman, three wheelchair users with disabilities and a man with a severe leg injury. All of them were successfully taken to safety.
Background: Ukrainian soldiers have previously evacuated a wounded infantryman from the front line using a heavy hexacopter for the first time. The wounded soldier continued to repel Russian attacks while waiting for help.
