Details: Trump claimed that if he had been standing for election himself, Republicans would have won by a huge margin in the 2 November elections.

"I wasn't on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!" he wrote.

Earlier, a White House official gave the same explanation for the Republicans' poor election performance to Politico journalists.

"President Trump was not on the ballot, and it's proven that Trump voters show up when he is on the ballot," the anonymous White House official said.

Background: According to early results from the US midterm elections, the Republican Party is losing its majority in the Senate , with Democrats securing the 51 seats needed to control the chamber. Democrats are also expected to win a majority in the House of Representatives.
