NFL trades typically come with divergent perspectives and, looking at the trade the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens completed on Wednesday, one team is trying to improve right now and the other is looking to younger players and the future.
The Eagles traded two-time Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens and a seventh-round pick in the 2027 draft to the Ravens in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2027 and a second-round pick in 2028.
The Ravens are improving their front line now — or rather, they will as soon as Jurgens, who is currently in the concussion protocol, can return to play, likely in Week 6.

This trade makes tons of sense for the Ravens.
They lost center Tyler Linderbaum in free agency to the Raiders in the offseason because they simply could not afford his contract demands.
Then lost Danny Pinter to injury.
And they lost Jovaughn Gwyn to injury.
Oh, and they lost Ethan Pocic to injury.
So they believe they're upgrading because they have a 3-1 record, lead the AFC North, have been getting kudos from President Trump and have designs of being a major factor the rest of the season and into the postseason.
The Eagles? General manager Howie Roseman apparently has a plan for the future.
They lost perennial All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson to retirement on Tuesday.
And now are moving on from a proven 27-year-old center.

But the Eagles are not waving the white flag on the season. They have obviously thought this through and that includes an evaluation of Jurgens struggling this season when he was shifted out of position to left guard.
They have the depth to do this.
Drew Kendall has played well at center. The trade immediately means Micah Morris and Willie Lampkin might have to step in at guard.
The team also can continue to hope the Landon Dickerson, who is currently on the injured reserve list with a bone bruise in one of his knees, can return in Week 6 when he can come off injured reserve.
Both these teams started the season with high expectations, probably even Super Bowl hopes.
They are taking vastly different routes in their attempt to get there.
