According to Exilenova+, Azot is part of the EuroChem group and is one of Russia's largest producers of nitrogen fertilisers. The plant produces ammonia, ammonium nitrate, urea and methanol.
Azot is significant to Russia's defence industry because, according to Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service, it supplies nitric acid to the Sverdlov plant in Dzerzhinsk, which produces explosives.
Background: This was not the first drone attack on Azot. Drones also hit the plant in June . A fire also broke out at a steelworks in the Russian city of Lipetsk on the night of 27-28 October following an attack involving jet-powered weapons.
