A Tennessee death row inmate is awake and talking after surviving two doses of a lethal injection drug during a failed execution, her attorneys said Tuesday.
Christa Pike remains hospitalized with severe arm injuries following Tennessee’s attempt to execute her last Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.
Her attorneys said her prognosis remains unclear and they expect a long recovery.
"Her recovery is medically unprecedented," her attorneys said, adding that Pike remains handcuffed and shackled to her hospital bed.
The statement was the first indication of improvement since an ambulance took Pike from a Nashville prison, AP reported.
She survived two doses of pentobarbital during the execution attempt.
