A shooting inside a Gaston County, North Carolina, home left two people dead and two others critically injured Thursday morning, after police responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire, authorities said.
The Gaston County Police Department said officers responded to the scene just before 8: 45 a. m. and found four victims inside suffering from gunshot wounds.
Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining two were taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

A person of interest has been identified in connection with the shooting , but police did not reveal additional information.
Investigators believe the suspect and victims knew each other and that the shooting was an isolated incident.

Authorities said they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
There is no known ongoing threat to the Gaston County community, police said .
Gaston County is roughly 30 minutes west of Charlotte and just north of the South Carolina border.
